Updates

Many exciting happenings lately!

First, a very sincere thank you to Marylin and Lindsey of the Aventura Book Club, for accepting Water Signs as their read for the month of February. For those who live in South Florida, check it out Meetup.com. I am also looking forward to addressing the group to discuss themes and answer any questions they may have.

Thank you to all of the "bowling girls" and other friends who purchased copies from Mom! Hope you enjoy and look forward to seeing some of you at Christmas!

Thanks to Annette for posting a review on Lulu and promoting the book to our St. Dot's alumni....you're the best! I also look forward to seeing you over Christmas!

My sincere, heartfelt appreciation to Kathy and Tre, for throwing a wonderful party for me on November 8 (you can see photos posted on my profile at Facebook, MySpace and Plaxo).

Finally, the book is up to 619 hits on the website and increasing everyday.

Thanks to everyone for your interest and have a great Wednesday!

530 Hits!

I just checked Lulu and am pleased to report that Water Signs is up to 530 hits! Thank you to all who have taken the time to stop by and check it out.

Also, a very big thank you to the Women's Wellness Society, where I had the pleasure of meeting some fantastic women last night! My good friend, Stacey Joiner, gave an excellent presentation on the importance of self-care, a topic she's written eloquently about in her forthcoming book, You Deserve the Royal Treatment. Check out her site at www.youdeservetheroyaltreatment.com.

Have a great evening!

Thanks to Lisa Macci

Good morning! I just wanted to post a special thank you to Lisa Macci, host of the Justice Hour, for her interest in reading Water Signs. Lisa and I are both Philly natives, so I am hoping she enjoys reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it.

And to all of the fabulous women I met last night at the Contemporary Federated Republican Women's Club of Boca Raton dinner, thank you also for your interest and for the fascinating, uplifting conversation. It was a pleasure meeting everyone and I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Slightly Off-Topic but Still Important

I've lost 15 pounds on Nutri System! I am so excited, as I will look and feel confident for all of these upcoming events. Two very dear friends of mine noticed the difference over breakfast this morning, where we planned a special celebration for Water Signs on November 8 for family and friends. I'm delighted to report that I will be wearing a beautiful halter dress that I couldn't even zipper just two short months ago! Coincidentally, it resembles a dress my character Madeline wears in a pivotal scene in the book. As with the book signing on October 29, I will recite a chapter out loud for everyone in attendance. Now that I've dropped the extra weight (just 10 more to go!), it'll be even more of a pleasure.

Have a wonderful weekend!

351 Hits!

Happy Thursday! Water Signs is now up to 351 hits on Lulu; not a HUGE number, but moving in the right direction!

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Feel like talking about it?

The book, that is! Anyone who's read Water Signs and wants to comment here on anything in the book: plot, characters, themes, etc., just leave a comment and I'll be happy to start a discussion. It's almost at 350 hits on Lulu, so we're moving in a positive direction!

And I just want to send out a very special thank you to my dear friend Tre, who is hosting a private celebration for friends on November 8!

Thanks to Christine King of the Get Fit Studio

I met with the lovely and talented Christine King yesterday at the Get Fit studio, where I was once (and hope to be again, very soon) an active, happy member. If you've never visited her place in Delray Beach, or experienced the benefits of functional training, I highly recommend it! Visit the Get Fit website for more information.

Anyway, a big thank you goes out to Christine for displaying a few copies of Water Signs in her studio! By the way, Christine, the new look is fantastic!

Happy Wednesday to everyone,

Daria

Speaking of Soldiers Angels

Yesterday I received a letter in the mail that I nearly discarded because it was in an unusual brown envelope. Thank goodness I didn't, as it turned out to be a lovely thank you from a British soldier serving alongside America's bravest in Iraq. Back in June, I participated in a web-a-thon hosted by Michelle Malkin and Melanie Morgan, by purchasing four care packages to be shipped to American Military members stationed overseas. This British soldier wrote to tell me that my contribution to the cause was generously shared with him by an enlisted American, one of many who sympathize with their British counterparts due to the lack of support they receive from their own countrymen. While this news made me even prouder of the United States of America, its military and its loyal, troop-loving citizens, I also felt intense sadness for Britain's courageous warriors, knowing how tough it is for them to experience the same outpouring of encouragement and consideration. So, Sergeant Lee Reynolds, thank you for your service and enjoy the goodies in the care package. You certainly deserve them. Stay safe and God bless!

Soldiers Angels Update

As mentioned in the press release below, the military charity Soldiers Angels is considering featuring Water Signs as their book of the month for January, 2009. I spoke with my contact person yesterday, and she apologized profusely that she has not yet forwarded my manuscript on, but will do so asap. I expect it will be well-received, but look forward to getting official confirmation! For every copy sold via their site, I will donate a portion of the proceeds back to the charity.

Here's the press release Tina sent out:

Local Author’s Book Sales to Support Soldiers’ Angels

New Book, Water Signs, features settings in Philadelphia, South Jersey and South Florida

BOCA RATON, Florida—In her first book, Water Signs: A Story of Love and Renewal, Daria DiGiovanni creates a tale of love and personal growth. This novel intertwines a love story with the soul’s sometimes painful but always necessary struggle for fulfillment and realization. While she highlights the themes of unwavering faith and the power of love, Ms. DiGiovanni infuses the book with a blend of humor, drama and intrigue that celebrates Philadelphia, South Jersey and South Florida culture.
“I spent my early years in the Philadelphia area where the first half of this book is set, so it was an exercise in nostalgia and loads of fun to write,” says Ms. DiGiovanni. “I tried to capture Philly’s unique culture and traditions by incorporating my own experiences as a devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan and a summertime vacationer at the Jersey Shore. A simultaneously uplifting and challenging journey of the heart, my book chronicles a pivotal period in my own personal development and represents the culmination of a lifelong goal. It’s also the first of many novels I plan to write as an ultimate tribute to faith, family and country.”
Water Signs is already receiving rave reviews from a variety of critics, one of whom states, “Daria touches the heart of everyone who believes in second-chances and the unbreakable bonds of love, faith and family. She has an uncanny ability to mesmerize the reader with sympathetic characters who face every hardship with grit and determination.”
One of Ms. DiGiovanni’s favorite causes is Soldiers’ Angels, an organization that provides care packages for the military overseas. The group is considering featuring Water Signs as an upcoming Book of the Month with a percentage of the sales going to Soldiers’ Angeles in support of their work with the wounded.

About the Author
Daria DiGiovanni was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised in the nearby suburb of Media. The youngest of five children in a close-knit family, she graduated from Villanova University with a B.A. in English. At age 27 she relocated to South Florida, where she actively pursued her goal of becoming a published writer, contributing feature stories and articles to various publications. With the advent of the “blogosphere,” she channeled her passion for the United States, cultural issues and traditional values into two successful blogs, Muzz Musings and Freedom Bright, infusing keen insight and thoughtful consideration into such topics as radical Islamic terrorism, Military heroism and national security. In 2004, Daria’s efforts led to an appearance on FOX News Channel to discuss politics and dating. She was also featured as a weekly columnist for the online magazine, The Martini Lounge, where she eloquently and oftentimes humorously opined on everything from her lifelong love of professional football to her “haunted” vacation in Savannah, Georgia. She currently resides in Boca Raton, Florida.

Royal Nails helping promote Water Signs

Last evening, I stopped by my favorite nail salon, Royal Nails, where I've been a loyal customer for 6 1/2 years, to deliver two signed copies to the owners, Kim and Leslie. Throughout the writing process, I continuously kept them apprised of my progress, as I typically see them every 2-3 weeks. Both were absolutely thrilled with the final version, and Kim asked if I would sign a copy for the customers, to be displayed prominently on the magazine-topped table in their waiting area. Since they are a very busy salon with lots of new and repeat customers, I was happy to honor her request.

While there, I also met two very nice women, who were extremely supportive and interested. So while things didn't work out with WXEL, I am keeping up my own efforts even as my publicist continues to seek out other media opportunities.

Hope to be back soon with follow-up information on the Fast Frame event!

TGIF!

My First Book Signing!

I just confirmed Wednesday, October 29 as the date for my first book signing at Fast Frame in Delray Beach! I will post more detail once we settle on a definite time, but it will be an after-hours event, most likely in the 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. time slot. Look for confirmation at some point tomorrow.

300 Hits!

Good morning! Hope you are all enjoying a productive Thursday!

Water Signs is now up to 300 hits on Lulu, so that's an exciting development! A good friend of mine who also happens to be my hairdresser, received her copy of the book yesterday, as did her mom. Both have been extremely supportive from the beginning (like all of my friends and family members), and now they can't wait to share the novel with their contacts! This friend is also going to keep an extra copy at her workstation, so clients can read it while she styles their hair. Also, another friend who owns a bookstore in Delray Beach got her copy and has promised to read it right away. Hopefully, it will find its way onto her bookshelves soon!

Until next time,

Daria

Hit Count is Up!

Wow, I just went onto Lulu and discovered that Water Signs is up to 287 hits! Now that may not sound like a lot, but just the other day, it was only at 240. So that's progress! Another bit of good news: HJ, a reader, posted a nice review, bringing my total count to four.

Not much else to report on today, but hope to have specifics soon regarding my Fast Frame book signing later this month, along with some other developments. Anyone who has read the book and would like to discuss on this blog, please let me know! I check in often, and would love to start a conversation about the plot, themes, characters and anything else you'd like to know more about.

Until then, keep the faith!

Daria

Thank you for visiting my new website!

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to the website for Water Signs: A Story of Love and Renewal! It's very exciting to have finally published my first novel, and to now have this blog up and running, so I can communicate with my readers. Self-publishing is great, yet it also comes with its own challenges, namely, making people aware of your wonderful accomplishment. :) To assist me with that, I hired a wonderful publicist, Tina Pugliese, and we are partnering up to spread the word about Water Signs throughout South Florida. Tina created an excellent press release, which went out last week. So far, WXEL is in the process of reviewing the book (keeping my fingers crossed!).

I've also been working with my own contacts diligently. Stay tuned for more information about a book signing at Fast Frame in Delray Beach at the end of the month (still finalizing details). I also have pending appointments with some other organizations and businesses in southern Palm Beach County, and expect positive results from those meetings.

Thank you for visiting and please, send me some feedback!

Best regards,

Daria :)
